I've been in the market for about 6 months for an SUV. I think I finally found one I like that seems to be a good deal. In fact, almost too good like maybe they are hidind something. It is a 1995 Explorer, 4.0, AT, 4X4, keyless, AM/FM cass & CD changer, Full power, towing package, new tires, AC, 141K miles. I really like this one. It drives really well amd doesn't seem to have and squeaks or rattle. They are asking $3900 for it. I am going to pick it up in the morning to take it to my mechanic to have it checked out and if everything checks out, I'll most likely buy it tomorrow. Is there any area I should focus on or anything in particular to look for? My brother drives a 96 thats almost identical to this one and he is approaching 300K on the original engine. Any insight would be great.
if it looks to good to be true..... have your mechanic check it out and get online and get a carfax report i think there about 20 bucks, but it will tell you about any major work damage wrecks salvage title anything like that
Sounds pretty good. Couple of suggestions:
- If your state has any safety or emissions tests, ask for the most recent inspections.
- If you are buying from a dealer, they should be willing to give you a carfax report free of charge. If they are not willing to, think twice.
- Make sure the trans is good, and the 4x4 works properly.
Thanks for the input. I bought the truck Friday afternoon. They accepted $3400 cash for it. I have since put almost 1000 miles on it, some off road and it seems to be pretty solid. The only problem I have found is the driver side back door will not lick or unlosk with the power locks. A minute problem with a 10 year old vehicle. Thanks and I look forward to future commentary as I need it. This is my first venture into a 4 wheel drive and an SUV so Im sure many more questions will come. Thanks again.
Cool - Enjoy the vehicle. Troubleshooting the door lock should not be too much trouble. It may be that the motor is shot or more likely, the linkage between the motor and the lock has broken. Check to ssee if you can hear the motor move when you hit the lock/unlock button.
