96 F350 Help
(its stock) and whether or not I can run 34's without a lift. I wont be able to actually look at this truck until next week and Im just wondering if it will fit in my garage.
BTW, this is my first post. This website looks AWESOME.
Thanks for any help.
On an F350, you can run up to 35x12.50's without a lift, if you shim out the front bumper. You may get some rubbing off road. My 33x12.50's fit perfect with no rubbing at all offroad. My bumper is shimmed forward about 2".
Find out what gear ratio the truck has in it. My truck has a 351 and C6 auto trans and came with 3.55 gears in it. With 33" tires, it was a total dog. When it shifted in to 3rd gear, it felt like it was in overdrive (which the C6 doesn't have). I spent alot of time pulling hills in the right lane in 2nd gear. Towing performance was miserable, to say the least. I threw down $1500 on a gear change to 4.56's and now it tows MUCH better
. Pulls like a one-ton truck should pull! Gear choices in our trucks were 3.55 and 4.10. You'll be ok with 4.10's and 33's. If you want to run 35's, you should switch to 4.56's. In my opinion, Ford should never have offered 3.55's with the 351 in these trucks, not enough get up and go
. Assuming you're not buying an F350 to cruise around with nothing in the bed and nothing on the hitch, if I were you, I would forget the truck with the 351 and find one with a 460 or a diesel instead. The 460 has alot more power and not too much less gas mileage than the 351.
The diesel is the best of both worlds, power and mileage, but you pay alot of extra money for a truck with a diesel and it's hard to find one with low miles on it. '94.5 and newer have the 7.3L Powerstroke, which is more powerful than earlier diesel engines and more easily upgraded.
