This is in relation to my post about a dying battery in a 67 f100 with a 6 cyl, 300...
I've changed the voltage regulator, the starter solonoid and the ignition switch and now everything seems to be running on half power; the dash lights are quite dim and the heater fan motor only turns at about half speed... what the heck is wrong??? HELP
Have you had the altenator tested to make sure it is good and charging, if not try any auto zone, advanced auto, or good parts store should be able to test it and if all else fails a John Deere dealer ship can test it for you
Have you checked the grounds? Batt. to the engine block and back of the intake to the firewall. Also check the cables them selves, look under the insulation.
If you have already installed a new alternator, you may have to rev the engine to 3K RPMS or so to get the new alternator to kick in and start charging.
thanks for the tips, I've managed to get things running at their proper speed now, but I've noticed that the alternator light is on dimly on my dash. Can't see it during the day because it's too faint. I'm beginning to suspect the alternator ( yeah, I'm a ******* sometimes) The question remains though, would this drain my battery overnight and if there was a short in the alternator somehow would there be power to the voltage regulator when I unplug it to save my battery? I know there's power there because it arcs when I unplug it. Also, I can definately hear the alternator change sound when I plug in the voltage regulator
