I disconected my power lead (two big yellow wires) to the glowplug controller so I could give my 7.3 a wiff of ether to start. After I got the engine warm i shut it off and connected my wires back up. Now, my WTS light goes off about 7 seconds before the glow plug relay starts clicking. It takes about 15 sec from initial turn of the key untill the relay starts to cycle on and off. Why would my WTS light be going off sooner since I had disconected my power lead?
Ether is a no-no,you may have burnt some glow plugs, the wts light stays on longer when some of them are shorted. There are alot of posts on "ether", you truck should be able to start without it!
Magic
Normal operation, Glow plugs burn longer when they are colder. You warmed up the engine, so they don't have to burn as long to reach the proper temp.
Ether is fine as long as you diabled the glow plug system.
You didn't mention how cold it was or if you had it plugged in, so I won't jump to say that it should have fired off. I will say that mine will start down to -10 when I forget to plug in. She doesn't like it, but she does start.
