Another problem with my 94 ranger ...
Unfortunately another gopher's popped it's ugly head outta the hole.
My truck's always had a strange sound/feel when in idle (either a squeak or a rough grind), but it has been relative smooth until now. As I mentioned above, I took the truck in for the coolant system, which was fixed, but now the idle problem has multiplied! It's to the point that the entire engine block shakes in place and I can feel the vibrations all the way through to my seat.
All that would be tolerable (for the time being) if it weren't for the stalls. If I deaccelerate in gear with the clutch engaged, I can bet on having to crank it again mid-turn or mid-stop.
Once I press the gas and it starts reving, it runs like a kitten, but it returns when I let off ... this idle thing has stalled me in the middle of an intersection twice ... something must be done, and I need to know more before I take it in to the shop, ya know?
anything you can help me, I'd be extremely greatful ... thanks, Mannfred
Check for
Vaccume leaks, dont just check the hoses, check the upper intake components gasket areas spray a little carb cleaner on 'em if the idle goes up theres a leack just spray real lightly
plugs and wires
while youve got the engine idling (if you can get it too) unplug your air idle control valve and see if it dies or changes, if it dont its probably not working, my step dad had troubles with his on a bronco ii and it made funny noises for a while till it failed and the only time the bronco would idle was while warm but still stalled, a new iac and the clicky noise was gone and the idle was back to normal
thats a start hope it helps
