differential ID
i just bought an 89 f150 with a 351w it's a long bed. i want to figure out which axles i have. and which differentials i have.
i have the vin code. can i tell from that? also i believe there is a sticker inside the door jam

Assuming this is a 4x4, the front axle is a Dana 44 TTB (Twin Traction Beam), high pinion housing, reverse cut gears. Rear axle is a Ford/Visteon 8.8" semi-float.
The door sticker will show the axle code. Look up the code in the 'tech articles' section of this website (link in upper right corner of this page) and that will tell you the ratio and the differential type (open or rear limited slip). The info tag on the axle will also tell you that information. On the tag, a 3 55 is a 3.55 ratio open diff. A 3L55 is a 3.55 ratio limited slip. Most common ratios for your truck are 3.08 and 3.55. Door codes for 3.55 are '19' and 'H9'. The 'H' indicates a rear limited slip. The all-numeric code indicates an open diff.
