83 302 problem

I hae a 1983 F150 4WD, 302 2bbl. I bought the truck last Sept. It has 64000 miles and looks great. The truck runs great except when it is damp outside. Even if it is a heavy fog outside the truck acts like it is missing out and want to die at low idle. It will go down the road fine but if I come up to a stop, it will start to shake and sputter. It it is dry out, the truck has no problem. Even the carwash will give it fits, but pull out and everything is fine. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor, distributor adapter, rotor button, cap, stator, armature, and ECM. I don't think it is electrical. I have been told that the rain is forming ice in the air filter and starving the engine of oxygen. Is this possible? How can I stop it? A friend of mine has an 84 and it has the same problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Since you have replaced the cap and wires, it must be carb icing. Make sure you have the original air cleaner hooked up, with the hot air pipe hooked to the heat stove/shield on the exhaust manifold. And make sure the little air door in the end of the aircleaner works. Also another poster the other day fixed his 351w, which had the same problem, by messing with some sort of exhaust damper that was vacuum operated in his intake manifold. I have never seen something like this before, but he opened this thing up under the carb and it let the exhaust flow under the carb to warm it up.

Today was almost 60 degrees, no rain, but heavy fog. Is carb icing still a possibility? The only emissions part I have not checked is the EGR valve. Could this be the problem or is it time for a carb rebuild? This only happens when it is damp and at low idle. Truck runs great down the road and all of the time when it is dry outside. I'm certain it is not electrical. Help, Help.

It can, but it should be to alot lesser degree. The vaporization of the fuel in the carb has a cooling affect-like when you spray an aeresol can and the can gets cold. Do you have the air cleaner hooked up to the exhaust manifold? And is the flapper working correctly?
