I have a 99 PSD, with a bad glow plug. That doesnt bother me, I can fix that. It occasionally smokes blue after starting, but not every time. My Fire Dept. mechanic used to work at a dealer, and I trust him. He said it probably needs injector orings, and since the covers are off to do the plugs, put the orings on. No problem with any of this, except he said it ought to be done every 50-60K or so. That seems a bit excessive to me. Plus, is the smoke coming from a small tear or worn ring, and burning oil?
Don't get me wrong, he is not trying to spend my money at all...
Just curious is anyone knows if Ford sells a oring kit, or each ring is separate...
Is your truck using excessive oil between changes? I just changed my o-rings, 230K on engine. Every 50-60K seems excessive to me. This job at a dealer is probably around 800-1,000 so maybe that is the reason they recommend it to be so frequent. Any way, on my 95 the center o rings were non existant on one side and I was using around one gallon of oil every 200 miles or so. I bought my O-rings from International as they were much cheaper. I also replaced 7 out of the 8 glow plugs and I still get some blue smoke in the mornings. Good luck

Reason: additional information
No, no real big oil consumption. He doesnt work at the dealer anymore, only for the city, so it kinda surprised me he went with every 50-60. Maybe he meant 150K.
Wish I still had my 1990. This pulling the valve covers is a pain...Oh well, what'ya do..
I figured with the intermittent smoke on startup, I had a knick in one of the orings, and it was flopping around letting oil into the cylinder, but I am certainly not an expert on it...
hey i hate to chime in but did you guys notice a huge decline in your horsepower at all when your glow plugs or o' rings gave you trouble. i have a 99 PSD and im at 67k and i have to floor it to move faster than a snail. i thought it was either of the two but id like to research as much as i can since its a pretty envolved process to get to them
Hey Red Man, no I had plenty of power, it was just using a tremendous amount of oil. I would fill the oil and check the fuel it was using so much. Nor did I notice any increase in power when I changed the glow plugs and o-rings. I don't have an answer for you, you may want to do a seperate post. Surely someone will get you pointed in the right direction
