Post Dirty Dancing?

Just received my generous tire warranty extension. It came with a paste over page for my owners manual. It seems to me that when I bought my truck it was of a mutual understanding what my entitlements would be. I know I certainly could'nt change the rules after the fact. It would be like agreeing to pay 10% on your credit card, maxing it out then trying to negotiate a lower rate. I understand that this is actually an extension of the warranty, but it seems like they are dancing around further liabilities that these faulty tires could cause. Beware of this "gift". I think Ford learned a lesson with the Explorer tire recalls and they know how to minimize their liabilities. Just my two cents.

How does offering an extended tire warranty minimize liability?

People do that everyday. If you called your CC company and told them you have an offer to transfer your 18% apr card balance to another card who offered you a 8.9% apr rate they would offer a lower rate to keep you most of the time.

Blame tire failure on tire pressure, spinning your tires even in 4WD mud, rain snow ect will void the warranty. Here is what the "new" page for your manual says....

Tire wear or damage

The new vehicle limited warranty does not cover normal wear or worn out tires.
Tires will not be replaced (unless required by a warranty repair) for wear or damage including;

Tire damage from road hazard such as cuts, snags, bruises, bulges, punture, and impact breaks.
Tire damage due to under or over inflation, tire chain use, racing, spinning (as when stuck in snow or mud), improper mounting or dismounting, or tire repair.
Tire vibration or ride harshness and uneven or rapid tire wear. However, limited coverage for these conditions will be provided for the first twelve months in service or 12000 miles (Sounds like there is a tire problem which they dont want to be accountable for. Hmmmm one year old truck add on a 12 month warranty and what do you get? NOTHING!) anyway to continue it says, This limitation is for ride harshness and uneven or rapid tire wear does not apply to tire repplacement on the new F-150 truck. (Note; the twelve month/12000 mile , whichever occurs first, limitation does apply to the F-150 heritage truck.)

You're right. That was a bad example. I learned my lesson in economics, but I
still do not think what is being offered will suffice. Is the vibration problem messing up the tires? This warranty has already expired for most that just received it. I think Ford is saying " update your manual and accept that we will not take care of any problems that may occur with your tires."

Maybe I'm just too dense or stupid... but the letter we received and the sticker contradict each other. The letter states that they are extending the warranty to 3 yr or 36k miles. But the sticker says the old coverage of 12 mo/ 12k miles.

Can anyone clear this up for me. I agree that Ford is probablly covering their back sides because they know that there are lots of issues with the vibration problem. Thus they are changing the warranty to cover the vibration wearing out the tires!?!?!

What do y'all think!!

If you will look at the last three lines of the overlay it is saying that the above is not for the F150. Disreguard the overlay and look at the letter.I think it would be a good idea to keep said letter with your other truck papers.

Okay this is making more sense now.

The day I bought my truck, Sept. 30, 04... I saw on F-150online that BFG recalled their tires with a 1501 or 1601 in the DOT number. They are having similar problems to the Wilderness AT's and I checked mine before I took delivery.

The dealer said they "Knew nothing about the recall" ... Imagine that!! SO I showed them the email with the recall and the DOT #'s. Then their story changed and they said they would "check all of the trucks on the lot too!!"

Maybe this is why Ford is "extending" the warranty for bad or uneven wear!!
Hopefully they learned the first time. My wife's Explorer had those Wilderness tires and I loved getting new ones when I was just about to have to but them myself.... THanks FORD!!

I had the wilderness At's on my explorer too. First they said mine were not bad. Then after a few more deaths they decided rubber is cheaper than flesh.
