I found some rust through above the drip rail on my 56 f100. The drip rail isn't that great, but it's still solid. It looks too tight to patch with the drip rail in place.
Has anyone here shaved the drip rail on their 56? What are your thoughts on it? Anyone have any pictures?
I've seen other posts where they repaired the hole with a fiberglass filler. I don't really want to fill the holes with fiberglass.
I have a 79 crewcab and I drilled out all the spot welds to take off the drip rail Thus, able to clean and prep better than the factory did. Ton of spot welds though. Use a good weld thru primer and bd sure to use a very good seam sealer. I really like SEM brand spendy but great..
Thanks. I'm not sure the drip rail will hold up too well if removed. I've also read that it's hard to keep the cab aligned properly if you split that seam. I'd really like to see a pic of a 56 without the drip rails. I may be able to fix the roof with the drip rail in place, but I will end up welding the drip rail to the roof permanently.
I just found some more, above the windshield. Not as bad though. I'll post some pictures if I can get my hands on a digital camera soon.
Sorry these are coming in bits. I bought the truck while in college, the body was really straight. I didn't have any time till now to work on it (just graduated). Now I've been spending the few daylight hours I have free finding all the dirty secrets hidden under filler.
