my ranger has always had a small fluctuation in its idle but When I added my new intake from VOLANT the problem became dramatically more pronounced. When Idling It speeds up rpm's and then it slows down to the point it almost cuts off. It has cut of a couple of times when i make turns in 2nd gear if any one has a sugestion it would be appreciated
I am sure you have checked the idle air bypass vavle. The first thing other then that to do is put a vacuum gauge on it and run it up into the cab where you can watch it while driving, let us know what you find, I bet you have a vacuum problem if your idle air bypass valve is ok....good luck,,,Neil
Im not really all that framilliar with all these valves what is my idle air control valve and where is it im assuming its around the throtle body some where
Yes, it is located just after the throttle body, it looks like a miniature electric motor attached to a gear box. It actually has a plunger inside that moves in and out to let more or less air by to lean or richin the mixture to maintain the proper idle rpm. They will get dirty and stick one way or the other so you engine won't idle right alot of the time you can clean them and get them working again...hope this helps....Neil
I just replaced the whole thing today (Idle Air Control Valve) Thanks Cobra351 you saved quite a bit of time and money considering the dealer wanted $90 to plug it into a diagnostic machine and th valve was onl $40 and I learned Something new This Seems to have Cleared it up.
good to hear you got it fixed, it is a common problem, one thing you can do to help keep it from happening again along with helping you whole air intake is, every time you change the oil spray a half of a can of intake cleaner in the intake along with spraying some of it into the air bypass holes with engine running of course and it won't get dirty and cause the problems you had...a little tip I learned from a local Ford dealer mechanic. later,,,,Neil
