A friend of mine just bought a '96 Jeep Cherokee 2wd, and told me it had a straight front axle. I didn't believe him, so I crawled under there and looked- sure enough; straight axle! And people say the Twin I-Beam is crude! How late did Jeep use this set-up? Or are they still using it? I assured my friend that at least it probably won't need much work over the years...
I think they stopped with the end of the Cherokee's. Unless you are talking 4x4 then I believe the cj7 type still run a straight axle. I am hoping to get a Cherokee or cj sometime soon They are about the only thing small enough to run the trails around here that still has the straight axle.
not trying to be critical here,but the xj is the midsize cherokee. the tj is the newest short-wheel base wrangler. not sure the letter designation they are giving the new stretched wrangler,the limited
