Ok...here's the deal. I guy came by work yesterday asking if I'd sell my truck. He was pretty persistant so I told him I'd check around to see if I could come across another truck like mine. In doing so I came across a Mustang Mach 1 at a used lot. From looking through the fence it appeared to be in great shape with the original markings. Question is...how can I tell if it is a TRUE Mach 1 and not a fake? I'm think....if this guy really wants my truck THAT bad he's going to have to pay for it Depending on how much the Mach 1 is I'm going to make a deal with him. Either he buys the mustang and signs the title over to me and I sign my truck over to him or, he gives me enough dough to buy that puppy. What do you all think??? That's about the only way he's going to get my truck anyhow. I've been looking for either a fastback mustang or a Mach 1 so... But going back to the original question. How do I tell if it's a real Mach 1?? Thanks all!!!
1978 F-150 flareside. Primitive by todays standards but she was a jaw dropper back then. :-staun
That info should be encoded in the VIN. If you can get the VIN, some of the web sites should be able to decode it for you. As far as I know, that's the only way to verify any OEM options.
You didn't say what year the car is. On the 1969 and 1970, check to see if it has a rear sway bar, the standard fastbacks are missing this. Also on the 1970, there will be two rectangle clear lights in the front grill called sport lamps and the toggle switch for them is just above the radio. I am not sure about the 1969, but the 70' should have a analog clock in the middle of the dash on the passenger side.
Also note, not all Mach 1's came with a rear sway bar or staggered shocks. If the engine is original it will have a partial VIN stamped on the back of the block, driver's side that matches the car VIN.
Not to disrupt the thread but I would probably lose all sanity at the chance for a Mach 1. A Mach III with a front mount blower would really be cool as well.
Oh Boy did you bring up the memories. In Highschool I found and bought a 71 Mach I Mustang. Red with Black stripes. Hurst 4 speed from the factory. 351 cleveland head engine. Autolight 4300 4 brl. carb (biggest ford made at the time) 3.72 gears in the rear end. it also had the rectanguilar lights in the grill but they were amber. twin port ram air hood. I drove it for 13 years. God I never should have sold it. It was a screamer, won many a drag race on the street and the girls just loved it. put 175,000 miles on it and it still didn't burn any oil. Wish I had held on to it.
