G'day guys, Ive just got the truck Ive always wanted, a 1980(same as 79 US) LWB 4x4 F100 and I need some help identifying the front diff, gearbox and transfer. What I can tell you is that it runs a 351C and fourspeed manual, the transfer is married to the gearboie no shaft between) and the rear diff is a braced 3.5:1 Detroit 9". If anyone knows I would like to know what type of fourspeed it is and the transfer and diff as well. Thanks in advance.
I'm going to reply to myself because Ive just found my service manual after about four years missing. The trans is a 435 and the transfer is a 205, still not sure on the diff though, the manual refers you to the F350 section for details which ran the Dana 70 in the rear, is the front diff in a 100 likely to be a Dana 70?
Thanks for that mate, is there anyway to tell for sure about the diff? Like a number cast into the housing or the number of bolts in the cover plate? I know the engine is a 351C for sure, we never got 351Ms out here, this one has got 4V open chamber heads and all the goodies that the hot falcons had out here.
I would have to believe it is not a dana 60 front because it is an F100. I suppose the best way to tell what was in it originally would be to decode the ratings plate on the doorjamb.
Post all the numbers you see on the plate and somebody will be able to tell you what you have (or had) from the factory.
