I'm thinking of purchasing this alarm w/remote start as opposed to the Ford remote start/alarm set up, For those of you that have installed in their diesel EX's, did it meet your expectations ? Does it really start up to 1/4 of a mile?

I have a Valet 554 remote start-alarm. This is the two way communication model.

One thing I found about these is that the range the alarm company states is a bit of smoke and mirrors. I mean, under optimum conditions, with the antenna in your truck facing the right direction, the right winds...you get the idea....the range might be there. Consider the claims a bit optimistic.

The range is far greater than what you get with the factory remotes. Some places I park have better range than others.

I have the 791XV in my f-350 PSD and the alarm works great. A couple of things I've learned are that the installer is going to have to use a timer relay instead of the wait-to-start wire/light to give the glow plugs time to warm-up, they may charge you extra for the relay. I had to pay a little extra to have them wire the alarms door trigger wire to each individual door pin wire. This is because of the 25 second domelight delay. It's not exactly neccessary, but I felt better having it that way. Mostly because if you're not around the truck when the remote start shuts down, there will be 25 seconds when the doors will be unprotected if the alarm trigger uses the domelight circuit. Other than that, I love it.
