Alternator Question

I'm in the process of ordering a new 05 F250 CC LWB 4x4 and was wondering what everyone's opinion is regarding the alternators (i.e. single, single heavy duty, or dual). I will be towing an open trailer with 4 quads or a 4 horse trailer. Would you recommend the dual just because or should I stay with the single or single heavy duty? It is a $350 option for the dual? I'm trying to minimize the cost of things I don't "really" need.

- Thanks

Re: H.Duty!

I service many trailers ranging in size from small Landscape trailers to 30tn floats, In my opinion the Single Heavy Duty Alternator should satisfy all your pulling needs. As there will be extra load on the engine when pulling them Horses!, a little extra juice wouldn't hurt!

Good Luck

I added the second one to my 05 350 cc 6.0. I may never need more than 140amps, but now it makes it my choice when to get the dead one fixed. Backups are nice. Especially when your way out of town. Keep in mind it would cost much more to add it later and it may help your resale value too. Of course if you get new trucks frequently you may never see an alternator fail, but you never know.
