Exclamation engine running hot

i was driving on the freeway and i put my truck in overdrive to go up a slightly steep hill. when i took it off i noticed that my truck was running hot. so i turned on the heater but it was blowing out cold air even after having it on for five minutes it was still cold when my engine was reading hot? when i got home i popped the hood and noticed around the coolant reservour coolant was everywhere. so i was wondering what the problem might be? i checked the thermostat and it is working fine.

also you should not use overdrive when climbing. its not good for your tranny. I would also put a new tstat in along with your water pump. its just good insurance.
