460 swap

I have a 74 f250 4x4 with a np435 trans. I was talking to a friend and he has a 79 with a 460 and an automatic in it. I was going to by the 460 from him and he said I would need an adapter plate for the bellhousing. It would not work if I got a bellhousing for a 460 or a big block and put the motor in and used the np435

jeez this has come up so many times here I dont want to count...

you need:

a 351m/400 bell housing from a 77 1/2 to 79 ford truck

a small pilot bushing that goes into the 460 crank a little deeper so tranny input splines dont hit.

and the correct right side exaust manifold for a truck with a 460.

and a flywheel for your engine: depends on what year as to what wheel u can use because of different balancing.

the little bracket for the clutch linkage that bolts to the bell you need also.

and the motor mounts for a 460.... there are a few different aftermarket ones built for this... I have heard that 1968 mercury monteray's had a stud styly engine mount that works in the FE stands, but it was hearsay.

I'm sure I didnt cover all the bases but thats a good start...

or if you have big bucks, look up L&L they have a entire kit for what you are doing.
