Harmonic Balance Installation
I have a 96 Bronco which I've replaced the timing chain. I need to put the harmonic balance back on, but neglected to mark its possition when I removed it. Does anyone have a measurement or method for installation.

It has a key, but I need to know how far to push it onto the snout. The balance has a hall effect ring on it. It appears to me that if I push the damper onto the snout 'till it bottoms out the ring will hit the timing chain cover.
I'm thinking of putting the hall effect sensor back onto the timing cover, then using it as a reference point against the ring. Any thoughts?

I think I understand what you are saying, but as long as you put everything back on in the right order and orientation, with the correct torque, I don't see how it would be a problem. I've never had the harmonic balancer off the Bronco, so I'm not much help here. Does yours have a spacer on the end of the crank, because if you forgot to put that on, it might be a problem. Let me know how it goes.

Fixed It!
Just thought I'd complete the post by letting everyone know that the trucks fixed an running. I reinstalled the balance and it seated propertly. In hind site I think I was just to cold and tired when I did the first reinstall. At any rate, everythings back together and it seems to be running ok.
