holley problems

i can not get my truck to idle at all it will idle fine with the choke just slightly closed but when you open the choke it stumbles and dies so i thought it needed more fuel to air ratio so i gave it more gas at the idle screws but still nothing and my vacuum gauge will bounce between 10 and 23 all the gaskets are new i checked the vacuum hoses

i pulled a spark plug and it was black as coal just curious if the accelerator pump is not adjusted right could it cause problems mine seems to be engaged all the time not just when you accelerate

How much gap is there between the accelerator pump lever and the acutator linkage at idle?

When you crack the throttle sharply, do you get the accelerator pump to squirt?

Might check for a blown power valve.
