Hey, I was wondering if anyone new the original horspower output for a 1985 EFI 302 motor. I am looking to upgrade the performance a little and was wondering around where I'm starting at. I know it's about 17 years old with around 140k miles, but it seems to be kicking still. Anyone have a clue?

hey Ry, i believe that engine was factory rated at 205hp...but factory ratings mean just about nothing because they are simply estimations. with 140k miles, you're probably looking at a decent amount of blow-by(cylinder leak-down), if it hasn't been rebuilt in its lifetime...with all those conditions, you're probably looking at close to 100-150hp to the wheels...torque is a different story. gearing can play tricks on ya too. if you have towing gears, it will still feel pretty ballsy, cruising gears will make it feel more sluggish. hope this helped ya out, take it easy.

The torque increased from 222 foot pounds at 2,000rpm to 285 foot pounds at 2,400rpm. This motor was avail in California only with a manual trans. The 351 and 351 HO motors were optional. ... "
