Please ID these heads.

Newbie post#2

I believe the heads are off an 83' 5.0L One has casting # 7D6, the other 7B3.

Also, are they the same head?

Q2: Can I use them on a 76' 302 block with 76' 2V intake? (may upgrade to alum 4V). I have the stud mounted valve train and pushrods. Also, aluminum rockers that have "Cobra" on them, if that means anything.

If there is an ID chart available, please post.

Thanks alot!

Those don't look right. Look on the cylinder side of the head and the casting numbers are right where the pushrods go thru and intake bolts up. Then you can go Here to find out what you have.

-Re-checked: D70E also a 14 in middle and 00 on other end.

According to your chart, 77's? There's no air injection ports and does have stud rockers.

Is that correct??

Thanks!

BTW (no cobra on VC's, just finned alum and "powered by Ford)

no, that is not correct. ford used a positive stop-type stud with the rail rocker arms before going to the stamped steel fulcrum type rockers in late 78 (or there about)...the e7 heads are set up for the fulcrum type rocker arms. if you look at your rocker arms that came off the studs you may find that the rocker has a channel (two rails) where the rocker contacts the valve...this is how they maintain alignment of the pushrod, rocker arm and valve, the rails on the rocker arm keeps thing aligned as required. as metal wears, it is possible for the rocker arm rails to come in contact with the spring retainers. the rail rocker arms with positive stop studs are not adjustable and neither are the later fulcrum style rocker arms. you may also want to check pushrod length if you are swapping heads and valve trains. i obtained this information from "How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines" by Tom Monroe. this book is very good with lots of info and engine building tips but written in the the late 70's so it does not cover the new stuff.

the first numbers you referenced are casting dates, 2/3/77 and 4/6/77.

if you want ajustables on the e7's, there is plenty of aftermarket stuff to choose from...good luck, garsten tucson, az
