I have a '56 f100 with a disc brake conversion kit on it. CPP tells me to torque the spindle nuts to 12 in lbs and then back off to the next notch on the nut. This results in a very loose fit and the old truck walks all over the road more than it normally would. I've been wondering what the manual states for the stock disc setup for the later trucks as the rotors come from an eighties truck. Any info? Thanks!
Tighten it so you can turn the rotor freely with a little resistance.
Back off the nut to barely loose, then tighten hand tight the nut finding the closest slot for the hole /cotter pin.
I just realized I wrote "in lbs". Should have said "ft lbs". That's what I get for working in aerospace manufacturing...
What you've told me makes more sense. I used to set wheel bearings by tightening them hard to seat the bearings, then back off and sneak up on the torque until the washer would have just a little drag on it side to side. I think you're approach will give me about the same resistance.
If I wasn't so tired right now, I'd go readjust them tonight. I do it tomorrow.
