5.0 has starting problems
Sometimes, the truck will start just fine, mainly when it's cold, but after driving awhile, and shutting it off, when I get back in it, it won't start, or else it will start, but sputter, and act like it's out of gas, and cough, buck, and run rough, then after a few seconds, it will just start running normal again.
Also, it sometimes has a real bad hesitation between 1000 and 1500 RPM, to the point of backfiring, and when it does this, the exhaust really stinks.
I've checked for codes, and only one came up, that was for the power steering pressure switch (I didn't turn the wheel enough during the key on-engine running part).
The timing is at 10 degrees BTDC, wasn't able to find the spout connector, so this probably isn't the right timing...?
When it doesn't start, it cranks over good, but just will not start, I have been lightly tapping on the IAC, sometimes it seems to help, and other times it doesn't.
When running, I can unplug it, and the idle changes slightly.
I need to run a compression test, I know, and maybe replace the fuel filter, but any suggestions would be much appreciated!
edit: engine has 2 month old plug wires, cap, rotor, and plugs are 2 years old, probably getting new coil this week.
just read that mybe the MAP sensor may have low vacuum, how would i go about checking this, and where is the map sensor at?
