I have an 81 f150 with a 302 it has the duraspark III and I want to convert it to the duraspark II. I replaced the VV carp to a standard 2150 2bbl and this went well, now I am trying to replace the ignition and am having problems. I bought a reman duraspark II distributor and the shaft on it is shorter than the one that I took out and the hexagon hole in the end of the shaft is not deep enough for the distributor to seat on the manifold. I need to know what distributor to buy.
cardone 302831 has a steel gear
cardone 302899 has a cast iron gear
i had a problem when i went from tfi to ds2, the tfi shaft was longer by 1/2" and the ds2 dizzy wouldnt fully seat to the block. found out that if i rotated the oil pump shaft by alittle bit it would slide in all the way in.
Thanks for the advise, I tried turning the oil pump shaft and it still wont go all the way down. On the ds3 dizzy the hex hole that drives the oil pump goes all the up to the bottom of the gear, on the ds2 dizzy the hole stops approx 5/8" from the bottom of the gear.
If anyone has any more advise I would really appreciate it.
