Ive posted this before but i figure i would do it again.
If your surfing and you get those annoying pop-ups, this is the easiest way to get rid of them. just turn off the messenger service, vermin use this to send those pesky little pop windows to you. this will not hurt your computer.
To Disable the Messenger Service Manually:
-- Click on the Start button in the taskbar
-- Open Control Panels
-- Go to "Administrative Tools" (XP users may need to go to "Performance and Maintenance" first, then "Administrative Tools")
-- Double-click on "Services"
-- Scroll down to "Messenger"
-- Double-click on "Messenger"
-- Change the Startup type to "Disabled"
-- Click "Stop" to stop the service
To Re-Enable Manually:
Follow the above steps, but change the Startup type to "Automatic," then click "Apply," then click "Start" under Service Status.
Note:
You must be logged on as an Administrator for the automatic fix to work.
x 2 for Mozilla. Also, the zilla's are easily "tweaked" and there is much info out there on how to do so. Tweaked Zilla eats IE and "dumps" netscape. ;-)
Very intuitive and user friendly. I LOVE it. Was also told that if you like secure, thin browsers. k-meleon was a good one as well.
I merely stated that a tweaked (or not tweaked at all) Mozilla is better than IE. Fact, not opinion.
There ARE users that ARENT being forced to do anything and will simply take your advice for what it is worth. Being that this is a forum, you can bet more advice will be given.
Then stick with IE.
I offered a superior browser, that is all.
........and heck, i thought i would have nothing to do today. Keep em coming!
and you don't know the differances between the browers. and considering your responses and tone to this thread, i will not discuss nor debate this any further.
but they dont have that patch for win 2000 plus i have given up with ie for it crashing and all the bugs and flaws in it
This fix will work for Win 2000, i'm running both 2000 and XP , the fix is the manual way of turning off pop-ups by turning off Messaging service in both operating systems.
SP2 for XP incorperates this into the update and does it for you instead of manually doing it.
yea but what do u do when u have a domain and need the messanger service that is my delema and i tryed and shut down the service and it did cut down a little of the pop ups but not all
I'll vouch for Mozilla Firefox. I usually am suspicious of the "other" stuff when it comes to computers. The FREE downloads and quick fix it soultions. BUT I was getting sick of the pop up and tried Firefos. No problems and it seems equal if not better than IE. Much faster. Keep IE for the few sites that are not compatable, I haven' tfound any yet. You will be pleased.
