The VIN looks a little fishy. Is it hard to read on the tag or frame rail? Here is some info that might help.
F50CR522195
ccceyauuuuu
ccc = Truck series
F50 = F-500 class truck
e = Engine code. For 1955:
D = 223 CID 6 cylinder
V = 239 CID 8 cylinder
Z = 256 CID 8 cylinder
J = 279 CID 8 cylinder
K = 317 CID 8 cylinder
Could the C be a D? You should be able to tell the straight six from the V-8.
y = Model year
3 = 1953
4 = 1954
5 = 1955
6 = 1956
Could the R and the 5 be transposed? If so, the 5 would mean 1955.
a = Assembly plant. For 1953 through 1955:
A = Atlanta
B = Buffalo
C = Chester
D = Dallas
E = Edgewater
F = Dearborn
G = Chicago
H = Detroit Truck
K = Kansas City
L = Long Beach
M = Memphis
N = Norfolk
P = Saint Paul
R = Richmond
S = Somerville
U = Louisville
If the R and the 5 are transposed, the R would be the Richmond Assembly plant.
uuuuu = Consecutive Unit Number (starts with 10001)
When there is a Domestic Special Order (DSO) code, it usually means the truck was a fleet vehicle (telephone company, etc.) or some other type of special order.
It is a V8 Dually that is a f500 and it is a manual tranny. It clearly looks like a Y block... Thats all i know.
If someone can tell me how to put an image in here I will do so.
I do see your point on the C.. It is clearly a c and everything i look at doesnt even have a C.
Is it possible that it could be an industrial engine. Like i knew the "Fe" Series have the 361 and 391...
Isnt there a way to go to fords website and email them about this?
