automatic locking hub
need some help on 96 f150 4x4 trying to replace ball joints and i have done this before on non 4x4 so i think i can do this job but i started and the book said to remove cap with torx bit ok did that and now it said to remove the lock ring seated inside the hub its very tight and how do i get this ring out there is no hole in the end like a snap ring can someone help me

There is a split in the ring, look carefully for it. Get a small screwdriver, ice pick, dental tool, or anything you can find to lift it up out of there. I have a small screwdriver I bent at the end that works alright. Then grab it with needle nose pliers (an angled pair works ok) and yank it out before it snaps back into the groove. They are pesky little rascals to get out!
