engine knocks ???

engine knocks ???
I have an 1997f150 with a 4.2l v-6, it hadn't been started in a couple of months(nov-dec,ok..and jan) I started it and a loud knocking sound is coming from the front of the engine....Any ideas on this and how to fix it??? It never made this sound before. A friend said something about a lifter or something stuck????

You might also try asking in the 4.2 forum which is a ways further down on the main forum page.
Noises can be hard to diagnose in real and almost impossible on here but someone there might have some more ideas for you.
