Question about explorer rearends
I thinking about purchasing an 99 Explorer Rear end with 3.73 gears that has only 60000 miles on it. I currently have an 9" the right width but by the time I buy disk brakes and a gear for it I will have alot of money invested. I can get the explorer rear end for $450.00. My question is does anybody know if these came with traction lock and how do you tell. Also the one I am looking at is out of a 4wd with a 4.0 liter motor. Did all the explorers come with the 8.8 and is there any differance between the 4wd and the 2wd. Thanks.

All Explorers have 8.8" with 31 spline axles. It can be open or traction-lok, just look at metal tag on one of the inspection plate bolts. It should have
3.73 or 3L73 on it (the bolt may be covering the first 3). If it has 3L73, it's a traction-lok.
