Lowering Kits

Hey guys! I'm new in, but I have a few questions. I own a 1985 F-150 XL with the fuel injected 302. I got it from my step-mother, its odometer is reading 110,000 miles at this point, and it has been badly abused. It was used to pull a Nascar trailer (and the nascar) for about a year, way over its load capacity I'm sure, and a local mechanic put oil in the transmission instead of transmission fluid to sabotage it so we'd have to have the whole thing redone. Luckily, I found out very soon and had the transmission flushed! She's not in great condition, but I've fixed her up. Redone all the hoses, new water pump and thermostat, all new belts and pulleys, new plugs and wires, new battery terminals, flushed the radiator about 5 times to get all the rust and crap out, and changed the oil and ran oil and engine treatment. I also added a cherry bomb vortex muffler and dualed the exhaust out, and I'm lookin' for advice for performance add-ons, and what I should look for to make sure she keeps running for hopefully a long time! The suspension isnt in good shape and neither are the brakes, but I'm planning on redoing the brakes and interior soon, and getting a paintjob....

<------ANYWAYS------>

This is what I had a few questions about guys... where could I get a hold of a lowering kit for a 1985 F-150? I'd really like to drop her a little bit (nothing radical) to get a better looking stance, and to get a better handling and better riding truck. Any suggestions? Also if you guys know of any place I could find good parts to enhance the appearance of my truck, that would be great, too! Thanks alot guys!

James

Whell I know of truck lift places, but no lowering places on the internet. Try 4wheelparts.com for some stuff.

I'm thinking about cutting the springs in the front, and using the universal lowering kits for leaf springs on the back... I dunno..

Yeah, I've seen most all of that stuff... makes me wish my truck was an '87 and not an '85... because none of those kits are available for '80-'86 F-150s, unless the suspension kits are interchangable with those of the '87 and up F-150s. I do appreciate your help. I think I might consider cutting the front springs and getting a universal lowering kit, the shackles for the leaf springs in the back... well thats what was suggested to me, atleast. If anyone else gets any ideas.... please let me know Thanks,

James!

Thanks alot! Question, I'm not that familiar with the suspension in my F-150.. are the "dream beams" 3" lower in the front or the rear? Sorry, I'm not the most knowledgable in this subject.. thanks!

Go with a 2/4 drop or a 2/2 drop (this looks pretty good and you don't have to worry about ground clearence to much) springs (sprimgs interchange from 81 to 96 f-150s), and the rear go with the universal kit. You can find this in truckin' magazine. Oh if you go with dropped i-beams donm't use round i-beams-they bend.
