I had this thing a week now and the more I drive it the more I like it. The V10 is a user friendly motor. After 11 years of driving PSDs I can't believe how relaxing a quiet motor can make you feel. Most of my daily driving is city driving and not having the clatter of the diesel is so sweet. My wife just loves how comfortable this 05 is. My mileage is around 10.5 MPG and my PSD was 12.4 for this same kind of driving . The PSD also got that with My Camper on and I will be happy if I get around 9 with the V10. I only put around 12000 miles a year on my trucks so a gas motor made the most practical choice for me. This big truck is very nifty in town even if you push the go pedal very carefully and let the automatic shift around 2500 RPM. If you mash it it it goes real good and sounds like a big Vtec Honda. I also own an 02 Honda Accord Vtec 4 banger and it is a neat little car to drive but not as neat as my new V10 Ford. So far the only negative things I can say about this truck is the white instrument cluster is cheap looking in daylight, nice at night. Also I wish this fantastic motor could sound like the old V8 gassers did when you go WOT but I never drove a gas truck in my life as reponsive as this new 3 valve V10. I am just getting use to making nice smooth starts. This thing wants to jump like a big rabbit. My 04 6 litre PSD had turbo lag so bad you gave it lots of throttle and then you wait for the dam to burst as the turbo pushes you into the seat. I know I can beat a stock 6 L off the line but he'll be catching up fast once his turbo starts to spool up. Turbo lag is a frustrating feel for a motor to have . That is why so many PSD owners chip their motors. Have a good Day, Wrench.
I still miss my 7.3s stump pulling power for some work but one of the beauties of the V10 is just as wrenchtraveller points out... the instant start n go, very VERY quiet and ability to pull into McDonalds and not annoy everyone with the clatter are all features that make V10 living much more composed, peaceful, and less stressful
I guess 10 Burning 4 Turnig could be ZEN like experiances!

hows week 3, my week one is like yours. unreal truck.
Hi Captchas, Glad to here you like your truck. Mine is still a treat to drive. I just finished 13 days in a row working a maintenance shut down in a pulp mill all 12 hour shifts except for two and I would drive the truck to work on a back road , then home on the highway. I only have 600 miles on her but I changed my oil this morning cause I believe it is good to get the break in oil out soon.
I put a Fumoto Valve in so oil changes will be a breeze from now on. No hot oil on the fingers when you pull out the plug. We use to talk about the Fumoto valves a lot at Diesel Stop. Most people love them, they are an extremely high quality product. Many people worry they leave a little oil in the oil pan so I did a little experiment. I removed the oil plug and let the pan completely drain out. Then I installed the valve and closed it. I put a jack under the axle on the passenger side and jacked up the truck so the front tire was about 1 inch above the ground. Then I opened the little Fumoto valve and about a tablespoon of oil came out so there you have it .
The V10 oil plug is on the side of the oil pan so when you remove the plug the oil stream shoots sideways so you must allow for this to avoid spilling.
I like the way the oil filter is vertical with nothing around it. You can fill your new filter with oil before you spin it on. It spins on to a real good looking oil cooler , all aluminum with good flow from the cooling system.
The factory oil filter was ridiculously tight. I have not seen this for 32 years
when my 1973 Cougar came with same problem. In both cases a strap wrench would not budge the filter but rather collapse it. I drilled a hole right through the filter and put a large screwdriver through the filter. I had to use so much force I bent the screwdriver but I got the fricken thing off. The filter was different than the Motorcraft FL 820S that I put back on. That filter calls for a 3/4 turn once the gasket makes contact . I was able to do that with both hands on the filter. The original filter had the gasket flattened right out so it had been severely overtightened. I am a millwright by trade and I make a living taking things apart and putting them back together. I am fairly certain that on the next oil change, that filter will be no problem. I am curious as to who or what would over tighten a filter to that extent. Take care and enjoy them V10s. Wrench.
this lady turns heads, oil filters i live with thight ones every day on the vw's, i think its from no oil on the seal when they put them on.
i had to tow with it already and what a dream compaired to my old f150, 4 days back and forth to work , hot cold . then day 5 a tow took my big boss owner along as he purchased my big boat and wanted to have the dealer do some mods to it , let him drive it home and was he grinning when we got back. this truck is awsome, would love to know why ford dose not sell more of them. then maybe us diesel to v10 gas men know something they don't.
at any rate hope you never have any problems.
