I am looking for any help I can get here. I am installing fog lamps on my 89 F250 and can't find the final wire to splice into. I am supposed to tie into the ignitions or parking lights. Anybody know what colors I should be looking for and/or locations to look. There are so many wires under there that is crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated from a Ford newbie.
I have owned nine trucks and have installed fog/driving lights on all of them.
I am no expert here but I do have some experience.
First of all: Why are you splicing into the factory wiring???
are you trying to install them so that they only come on with the Hi-Beams???
I have always installed mine so that they operate off of an indipendent switch on the dash.
I do recomend however that you tap power from the fuse box under the dash. you will thank yourself later if you power them from and unused circut that is only powered when the key is on. (Dead Batteries suck)
That way they are only on when the truck is on . I have a tendancy to use mine like daytime running lights. if the truck is running then the lamps are on. Be sure and use an inline fuse, wire no smaller than 12 guage.
And for the love of all that is good and holy, when you aim them have some courtsey for oncoming traffic.... aim them low and make sure that the mounting bolts are tight..
I had 2 pairs of Fog lights. 2 were on the grille, and two are under the bumper. The grille ones(now gone) were wired independently. The power was straight from the battery with a 15A fuse.
My bumper ones are wired with a Relay. I tapped into the parking lights wire. The color of the wire is BROWN and it is behind the light switch. The bad thing about this method is that I have no switch to turn them off.
lol, like uglytruck said, aim them low....I know many-a-people that were blinded with mine....
Hey 93,I am doing the same except i am placing one unde the rear bumper so as to gve me additional light when backing and when it is time for launching and loading the boatI was told of the method used by UglyTruckbut which space do i tap into under the dash. I have currently ran the light all the way to the front of the truck but Now I need an entrance point and and a discreet location for mounting the switch

1. is there a wiring diagram for"Dummies" to do this!
2. what splices or connectors are needed for the splice into the fuse box
3.are you using an existing space to draw power or an existing slot sort of double parking
this and any other help will /would be very helpful
thanks in advance,
Donavan
Mount true fog lights as low as possible to be effective and on a relay powered from an "ingintion on" only power source. If you check my gallery you can see my option, and the switch location. I use the lights only with low beams for obvious reasons, high beams just back scatter in fog. I have them aimed so that the fan style flat light pattern is focused to the near edge of the normal low beam pattern and the right light just slightly to the right to pick up the roadway edge.
run a wire from fuse box you should have an empty space where the circuit is closed when ign. is on and open when off wire to there then to toggle then from toggle to lights that way when you shut your truck off your lights will go off in case you keep them on (you wont run your battery down) and if you don;t want to run them while truck is running you can flip off the switch. that is how i got mine wired.
