Exclamation 91 ford f250 wrong fuel pump ??????

i have an 91 f250 4x4 with a 5.0 that i bought as a salvage truck from a dealer. it is a relatively nice truck. they did a good job of putting it all back together . problem is that as soon as i took it home to rhode island from new hampshire (a 2 1/2 hour ride) the fuel pump started making a high pitch whine and i started to lose all sorts of power and got a real bad ping in the motor. figured the ping was timing so i checked it and it was off a degree or 2 so i reset it to 10 btdc as required. still got the ping . the dealer said he put in a new fuel pump and sending unit. i dropped the tank and did find a new pump and sending unit and the tank leaked so i put in a 17 gallon tank. i think that they put in the wrong pump at the dealership because on 90-91 it is not a fuel pump it is an in tank fuel delivery module. i figured that out when i went to autozone and asked for a fuel pump for a 91 f250 and they gave me this plastic canister like thing that looked nothing like what is in the tank which is a cylindrical metal pump. also neither of the gas guages read right.

my fuel milage is horrible, my power is not there and the pinging is driving me up the wall . i bought the new in tank fuel delivery module, the new sending unit to go with it and now i need to find a REASONABLY priced float kit for it neither the pump or sending unit have it included and ford wants $80.00 for one. so it is $112.00 for the tank.$150.00 sending unit. $140.00 for the F.D.M. and now another $80.00 for the float kit.almost $500.00 im up to . and im still confused. anyone know where to get a cheaper price on the float kit ???????PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!

well i went to the salvage yard today and found a sender, fuel delivery module and a float kit all as a unit in the junk gas tank pile that was gonna get crushed and sold as scrap and paid a whopping $35.00 for the whole setup. looks like brand new too. only problem is that the brass float has a small hole in it that i am gonna solder up tonight .hopefully that will solve my problems . i will keep ya updated

Thanks for the info you gave there on the pumps, I just bought a 91 w/5.0 to and figured if anything went wrong i have both tank pumps new in the box still from my 87 f150 & i could just use them . Boy that sure would have been a nice surprise.
