EEC-IV Conversion in a 73-79/302? Anyone done it?
I am contemplating converting my 78 F150 2WD/302/C4 to EEC-IV using 88-93 Mustang GT computer and wiring harness. Anyone here see one on a 73-79? If so I have a few questions about areas that I am unable to resolve issues for. The fuel delivery system is about as cut and dried as you can get, but I need to know:
1. Speedo cable - How to make it work with the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)
2. Throttle linkage - How to make that work also or a way to convert to a gas pedal with provisions for a throttle cable.
Any and all answers are welcome...

If you look for a 6 cyl truck most all of them had a throttle cable set up. I'm sure you could make whatever length cable you need. Cruise control equipped trucks had a two piece speedo cable with a VSS mounted near the brake booster. Not sure if this signal would work for your app, but its a start. You could also change out the trans to an AOD, which is essentially an old FMX w/ OD. This would be cool as you would have overdrive. These transmissions are remarkably tough as long as you have the TV cable adjusted correctly. I had one in a 66 F100 with a 300 6cyl and pulled a 22ft Sea Ray with it. Worked great. Because there is no convertor clutch in the AOD you can tow in overdrive as long as you dont lug the engine. With my old 300 that was no issue.

1. Speedo cable - How to make it work with the VSS
(Vehicle Speed Sensor)
If you look at the late 80's Mustang, the VSS is on the tranny and there is still a speedo cable attached to it. This will fit your current tranny with no problem. I had this with my injected 460 in my 76 crew cab.
2. Throttle linkage - How to make that work also or a way to convert to a gas pedal with provisions for a throttle cable.
You can look for a different pedal (as stated in the other response), then make a bracket at the motor in order to hold the end of the cable. The other choice would be to use a Lokar or similar cable.

To many to mention.

I did this swap about a year ago. The mustang speedo cable will work and is exactly the same length. For the throttle cable I used the stock mustang pedal and cable with a little fabrication but nothing that an average backyard mechanic couldn't tackle. I would be worried that a truck pedal wouldn't pull the cable enough to reach WOT. But I could be wrong.
