Question Early Bronco curb weights

I am looking at building a 72 Bronco for a daily driver and would like to install a 2.3 turbo/intercooled out of an 88 Tbird and would like to know about the weight of a 66-77 Bronco. I will be running 33s and 1977 axles. I am not sure if this is enough motor, but fuel economy is a large part of it. Offroading will only be occassional and not too serious. Any ideas on curb weights. Thanks in advance fellow Ford nuts.

Depending on the equipment, the factory Bronco weighed between 3100-3700 lbs.

While the 2.3 is a decent engine, it is not going to be enough. Any fuel economy gains that you would get from running the smaller EFI engine will be lost trying to get it moving.

If you're going for fuel economy for a daily driver, go with a fuel injected 5.0 and an AOD trans. With the right gearing and sensible driving, there should be no reason that you couldn't pull 18-19 mpg.

Broncos with hard top and V8 engine are listed at about 3800 lbs according to the spec sheet I got on mine. On a scale, I would expect it to weigh around 4000 lbs, since listed weights are usually a little less than actual scale weights. I've never weighed my Bronco by itself. On a trailer, it weighed about 6000 lbs.

Torque is what gets your bronco moving. That 2.3 doesn't have enough torque low enough in the RPM band. I believe it makes it's max torque at 3000 rpm where a V8 would do it about 1600. This means more clutch slip to get moving. If you want to something different and economical, maybe a small diesel. I personally like the VW TDI's. They make all their torque low (1800 rpm) as well and they get phenomenal mileage.
