Muffler shops?
I was wondering if a muffler shop can take off cats and put straights on with tips coming out behind each rear wheel? If so, how much? If not, what kind of exhaust system that will fit a 1986 xlt, 302 that is pretty loud, but not obnoxious. Any input will be appreciated. thanks..

I think pretty much in all states its against the law to take your cats off...that being said a shop would be nutts to do it because they could get shutdown...get a high flow cat and headers and a flowmaster...you will notice the difference...

If you want to go cat free you will have to cut them off yourself and find a shop that will weld some pipe in to fill the gaps. I had Catco high flow cats installed when I had my true dual setup put on and couldn't be happier

like said above get some headers and stick to the single exhaust setup. its much better for our broncos and with a hi flow cat and glasspack or flowmaster will be plenty loud. running duals on a stock motor wont do anything but bring more exhaust thru the rear of the cab

I had a shop build a custom exhaust system replacing the second cat with a 3" in 3" out performance cat, Flowmaster 40 series single 3" in dual 2.5" out and twin pipes exiting behind the passenger wheel. The performance improvement was very noticeable and I did not sacrifice low end torque. The sound is mildly aggressive on normal acceleration, comfortably quiet when cruising, and rocks when my right foot is feeling heavy.
