Well I'll be tongue tied and twisted ...spit... I went out and bought the oil and filter and spout and deisel kleen at wally world last night. And just as I was leaving I thought lets see what everyone is talkin about with these oil filters.. Huge Son -of-a-gun I wonder if my filter wrench will fit (grabs one from wal-mart shelf to test ) NOPE! ...I know I will get one of those rubber strap wrenches from ??? somewhere.
So off I went to Harbor Frieght , on sale this week a set of 2 (one small and onelarge) 3.79 US...lol I hope this darn tool works. Otherwise I will have to walk to get a chain wrench.
I read ealier this month that a screwdriver stuck through like a T handle is effective ...just wanted to be more professional for my first oil change ...lol
And I will prime the filter ..thx all
So on my 2002 7.3 where the heck is the fuel/water seperator ...I am just itchin to drain it. THX all
I use a strap filter wrench , works with a breaker bar and fits any filter . The water seperator is part of the fuel filter , the yellow handle on the right front of the filter canister will drain the filter/seperator when moved clock wise . Be sure to put a length of hose on the drain tube to get it into a container .

I also learned the hard way that it's not a bad idea to punch a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain it before you remove it. I like to change my oil when the truck is at operating temp with all of the garbage stirred up in the pan. I found, through esperience, that the fact that this filter is just a bit large for one hand, that it's smooth making it very slippery and that it's quite heavy when filled with oil can lead to a rather painful and messy mistake!

I know what it is ...lol...I just cant find it ...2002 7.3 psd ..havent looked that hard but was hoping I wouldnt have to climb in to get to it ..Is it accessed from below or from above with hood up ??
Above with the hood up and you'll climb up onto the engine unless your very tall and limber. There will be a cover over it and two 10mm bolts to remove to expose the filter and seperator lever. It's in the middle of the engine about a little more than 1/2 back from the front.
