I just replaced my glow plugs on my 99 powerstroke, but it still has a hard time starting when it's cold. Once it's warm then it will start right up all day. Only when it sits overnight does it struggle. Any Ideas?
welcome to the forum.
do a search in this forum... go advanced search, pick titles and type in either cold or hard... its been covered many times... good luck
Replace your GPR glow plug relay. Easy job. Mine just did the same thing. I replaced the glow plugs and it still didn't start. Replaced the GPR and starts easy.
mine is at dealer now for the same thing. they called this afternoon and said the glow plug system checks out good. it would fire like it was going to start and then just crank over & over. I tried cycling the glow plugs (according to the dash lite) but that didnt help.
After your glow plug light goes out, wait for about 30-40 sec. before starting. The plugs are still heating after light goes out. The colder it is out side the longer you want to wait after the light goes out. Should work for you................
AJ21.. Did you purchase the GPR from the dealer or aftermarket parts store?? If you went the aftermarket route, who did your purchase it through and what was the P/N???
I bought from the dealer as I needed to get on the road again. $100, and I could have saved $50 on ebay, but didn't want to wait another week, oh well! She starts right up now,,,not any hesitation!
I have a 7.3 l deisel (1999) that starts hard if I leave it set for more than a day without starting it. It sounds like it is coughing and hacking, and getting ready to spew up a furball. Once it is started thogh and runs a few minutes, it starts right up with no problem, only starts rough if is left unstarted for more than a day, no matter what temperature it is outside, cold or hot. Any idead would be helpful. I have heard that it might be my glow plug relay, where is this located and where can I get one ??
