I am getting ready to get me a 2005 & between the 2 trucks 1 has ESOF but TC. The other has manual hubs 4X4, but no tow command. Which one is better. I am thinking Tow Command all the way. I use 4X4 more than towing ,but everyone I have talked to says TC is the way to go. I am just worried about ESOF ,because of some of the problems posted.
I would get the Tow Command. With the manual 4x4, you have to get out of the truck to lock the hubs in.
From what I understand, the way ESOF messes up is that it will not lock the hubs in. What's the difference? If it DOES work, then you stay dry, even better!
DUKFVR,
The only problems that folks have with the ESOF more than the manual system is the lack of use. If you don't engage it regularly, it just don't want to cooperate.
If that's what's worrying you, forget about it. Get the Tow Command w/ESOF, engage 4x4 regularly and you'll wind up like me - still got ESOF on my '99, and it works everytime I flip the switch.
You gotta be dedicated at first - use Post-It notes if you have to....
Get the Tow Command. If you do any amount of towing, you'll definitely appreciate the setup. You won't be able to add Tow Command later and may regret not having it... I agree with Ron - just keep using your ESOF controls and you shouldn't have any problems.
The tow command is state of the art. You won't be disappointed. I have owned 7 vehicles ESOF and have yet to encounter a problem. Just engage every once in a while and you'll never have to worry.
I wouldn't get either one. Instead, I would kick back and wait for one with manual 4wd and Tow Command, as well as whatever else is important to me. Why be in such a rush? There are plenty of trucks for sale out there!
I like my tow command. ESOF is good if you use it on a regular baises. I think the ESOF will save me $ in the long run. I live in NE WI. Instead of leaving the hubs locked in all the time I just turn the switch when I need it and turn it off when I don't need it. The hiway is usally plowed and clear just need it for the side roads and getting on the hiway. JMO Tim R.
