Why do 99% of people that own things like that call them trucks? And why do they think just cuz they have 4x4 that they can drive in ANY conditions?
Jeez, only idiot to get in my way since I got my 90 bronco was a rav4, he came screaming across 2 lanes of traffic just after a decent snowfall. All 4 tires spinning, him just missing me, and both of us ending up in a ditch. Guess who had to pull who out? Truck indeed.
The other kick in the pants for those people is thier insurance/registration on those things calls them "trucks" in many places, while my bronco is listed as a station wagon! Making my payments MUCH lower
In IL, they don't seem to care what kind of plates you put on anything. I see minivans with truck plates and Full Size Broncos with car plates. It's all completely messed up!
Most 4x4's never even see gravel anymore because everyone has to have 4x4. Then they think they can never get stuck or go in a ditch in snow or ice. I get along fine with my two wheel drive.

I hear ya on that one. I can't take my truck on Lake Shore Dr. with truck plates, but if I get RV plates it's suddenly OK.
As far as 4x4 goes, it sure is easier to get around in the snow but you don't stop any faster than 2WD, I almost learned that the hard way once.

I think I would have left the dumb s.o.b. in the ditch.

Ain't it the truth - In Southern Calif. we don't have much of a problem with snow, but for those who think 4wheel drive means 'drive anywhere', it often just means all 4 wheels stuck in the mud!! By the way, I'd have left him in the ditch and thought about getting another fiancee'!!
I pulled one out of some ruts when offroading once. My buddy was heading home when he saw a few of trucks in the middle of a field so he came to my house and told me there were some trucks out at the mud hole. We headed out thinking one's got to be stuck so we can try out the Ramsey. I headed straight for the rut most people get stuck in. Right in the front was a Rav4. The thing didn't make it 20ft and it was burried...in few inches of mud spinning 2 tires and highcentered. I hooked my winch up and gave a tug only pulling the Supercrew to him. I finally got him out after repositioning myself. The best part of it all was when I drove straight through the ruts he was stuck in throwing muddy water all over his buddys rather clean trucks when I went by. They just stared in amazement like I did something special. Idiots
