Thumbs up Chapter charter for your viewing ( its long)

So-Cal Chapter of Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Charter

Taken from the FTE Charter:

Mission Statement

Ford Truck Enthusiasts is an organization by and for Ford truck fans. Its intention is to assist owners in the enjoyment of their vehicles. We cater to all Ford truck fans, whether they are antique restorers or daily drivers of new trucks. Our goal is to allow all those who use our discussion groups to exchange information in an environment free from outside influence.

Models Covered

All F-series pickups, E-series vans, Excursions, Escapes, Explorers, Expeditions, Rangers, Broncos, Bronco IIs, Aerostars, Rancheros, and pre-F series pickups (T's, A's, etc). In addition, Mercury and Lincoln trucks and SUVs are allowed. Any truck considered in discussions must be recognizable as a Ford family truck and must be powered by an engine based on one originally installed in a Ford, Mercury, or Lincoln vehicle at the factory, but can be assembled using Ford pattern, after-market blocks and heads, as long as it is recognizable as a Ford,Mercury, or Lincoln engine. Use of other brand rods, rod bolts, valves, non-stock carbs, etc. is considered within the normal scope of Custom Truck Craft and is acceptable.

Added for So-Cal use:

Meetings

Meetings of the chapter are to be held at least once each month to encourage new membership in the chapter and to strengthen current bonds between members. Meetings can be held at organized events and attended as a group or my be organized by members with approval from other chapter members and enough attendance. To ensure that members are aware of upcoming events a calendar of events will be updated at the beginning of each month on the chapters website once it is established, the President will also post a list of scheduled events and meetings in the events and meetings forum as well as the chapters forum.

Membership

Memberships is not restricted to any make model or year of vehicle that the member currently is driving or in possession of , the reason for this being that it would be unfair to allow an enthusiast not to join simply based on the make model and year of vehicle they are driving. Memberships will be approved by either the chapter President/ leader or a majority vote of the members, in the event that the President/ leader is unable to do so.

Member Conduct
All members of the chapter must conform to all State and local regulations, mostly because its the right thing to do, but also because it only takes one person to mess things up for the rest of us. This includes all at all events as well as outside activities. A warning to those who might mis-represent the chapter and its members if you do so you will be BANNED from the chapter. This is because as a member of this chapter you should be a pillar of the community or at least a good representative .

Chapter Promoting
It is the duty of all chapter members to promote the chapter when he or she is able to. The chapter lives and dies by it’s members and because of this we need as many people as we can get. If a member sees a Ford Truck owner that he or she thinks might be interested, the member should tell the person of not only the chapter but FTE as well, because without them we would not exist.

Member Activities

I’ll leave this open for things that you guys think you’ll want to do. Some Activities already mentioned were :

Member Build Days
Member Picnics or BBQs
Etc.

Ok guys thats what Ive got so far let me know what you think and what we ought to change or add.
-Chris

Keeping in mind the addage that "what is written lives forever", I have some thoughts/suggestions: (Only because you asked... )

Under Models Covered: "...and must be powered by an engine based on one originally installed in a Ford, Mercury, or Lincoln vehicle at the factory..."

I think it is a mistake to require that the powerplant be a Ford. It doesn't affect me, but some others on FTE (48-60) definitely have other than Ford motors and their participation in FTE is not limited by the moderators. I would suggest striking the engine requirement entirely. If it is recognizable as a Ford truck, that should suffice.

From Membership: "Memberships is not restricted to any make model or year of vehicle that the member currently is driving or in possession of , the reason for this being that it would be unfair to allow an enthusiast not to join simply based on the make model and year of vehicle they are driving. Memberships will be approved by either the chapter President/ leader or a majority vote of the members, in the event that the President/ leader is unable to do so."

Of course, some guidelines on membership requirements (other than just liking beer) must be included, but I think including the reason for a charter point only invites dissent about the reasoning and unnecessary debate. I would suggest that the Membership section simply state:

"Membership is only restricted to persons enthusiastic about and interested in Ford Trucks. New members must be nonimated by a current member and be approved by the Chapter President, his designee or a majority vote of the membership, whichever is more practical at the time of enrollment."

From Member Conduct: "All members of the chapter must conform to all State and local regulations, mostly because its the right thing to do, but also because it only takes one person to mess things up for the rest of us. This includes all at all events as well as outside activities. A warning to those who might mis-represent the chapter and its members if you do so you will be BANNED from the chapter. This is because as a member of this chapter you should be a pillar of the community or at least a good representative."

I suggest eliminating the "reason" and restating the mission here more directly, like:

"All Chapter member are expected to conform to all State and local regulations. Members are expected to be respectful of others and to conduct themselves in a manner which reflects favorably on the FTE and the So Cal Chapter.

If, in the opinion of the Chapter President, a member's conduct violates these guidelines, revocation of membership may result. Membership revocation must be approved by a majority of Chapter members."

We might need some more discussion on this one. If we ever had to throw somebody out, it is kind of a big deal. More opinions here would be helpful.

From Chapter Promoting
"It is the duty of all chapter members to promote the chapter when he or she is able to. The chapter lives and dies by it’s members and because of this we need as many people as we can get. If a member sees a Ford Truck owner that he or she thinks might be interested, the member should tell the person of not only the chapter but FTE as well, because without them we would not exist."

"Duty" bothers me. I suggest:

"Chapter members are encouraged to promote the activities of So Cal FTE to other Ford Truck enthusiasts with the understanding that doing so strengthens the Chapter's ability to serve the members and provides the mutual benefit of a larger network of like-minded enthusiasts."

In my experience, it is just usually more productive to motivate than chastise.

One of the items to discuss at the next (Temecula) meeting should be everyone's input here. We should be able to finalize a draft with some discussion.
That's my two cents. (Where's my change?)

I like your suggestions,
Like I said before this was kind of a draft, just more like random thoughts on what we should have. Lets hear some more from others. I'll work on editing it when we have some more discussion on it.
Thanks Randy,
-Chris

Boy, you have both put some nice thought into this. Thanks for your efforts. In past experiences Randy hits the nail on the head with "In my past experience, it is just usually more productive to motivate than chastise". So, true. I agree with the modifcations and will print both and read thoughly. Long work hours this week has left me with damaged brain cells, rest and a drive in my truck is needed badly.

It looks like the charter's heading in the right direction. I'll reread it again a few times and let you know if I come up with any more siggestions.
