I'd like to clean the interior up on my 1980 F150 4X4. It's been used mostly for a farm truck but I've got it all fixed up to be my daily driver, I just need to clean up the interior. So does anyone have any tips on cleaning or dressing up the interior to look good? Thanks.
what i plan on doing with mine is stripping the carpet completely, sanding the floorboard and all sheetmetal and checking for rust(fixing it as best as i can without welding uuntill i can get it done the right way) then painting the floor board with some kind of metal sealant or something like that. then putting down some dynamat maybe or other sound deadening material and then new carpet. from the floor under the pedals all the way to the bottom of the rear window frame. i intend on putting in a dashpad and painting all the interior either a midnight blue or black, and getting a new bench to match or having the current one reupholstered after rebuilding it myself. i will do the same(sand and seal) the ceiling and add a new headliner(dynamat included). i will then fabricate a tray/shelf thing where the visors are(those will be either swapped for newer model ones or fabricated as well) and cover it with the same headliner cloth or possibly vinyl. all of this in a midnight blue or black(bench included) i will take the dash and probably paint that black and silver(like a brushed nickel type of look) to match the new jc whitney racing steering wheel i will put in. i will put speakers in the doors and probably try and fit a subwoofer or bazooka behind the bench(good luck with that-i know). so basically i will be doing a black and silver interior look. thats just what i like personally. i wanted to paint a picture for you as best i could to give you some ideas. good luck, i hope this helps. if you have any questions, feel free to message me or email me and i would be glad to try and help.
I inherited my 86 in like 1999 and thats when i comensed a complete interior clean up. I got my truck from my dad who bought i bran new in 86. Since the day the truck was new, it was a work truck. He used it for his construction job he worked at for 13 years and beleive me. It was nasty. But about a gallon of armorall and alot of TLC later it looks like bran spankin' new. I would suggest by starting with armor all and see what the interior looks like. You may need to replace the carpet or floor vinyls (i did). I did my own carper and it looks awesome. For the seat. I just ripped the old one out and put in bucket seats from a 99 ezcort ZX2 (45 dollars for 2, at local wrecking yard, and comfy) For the really nasty stuff, like the stuff that sticks in the lines of the stearing wheel and such, i had to literally dig it out with a lil thing costom bent all the heck to dig that crap out. Some stuff you might want to consider is some parts cleaner for the shifter boots (if you have them) and your floor vinyl (if not carpet) But liek i said i finished that whole truck with armor all and it looks GREAT.
probably try and fit a subwoofer or bazooka behind the bench(good luck with that-i know).
When i had my bench seat i put in 2 jbl 10's behind it and it worked out fine. Since my legs are a bit short i actually had room left over. I had to end up moving both subs to the passenger side since they beat the crap out of my back. But it sounded good. (made the roof shake up and down vigerously) jsut make sure your boxes aren't that big.
If you really want the silver and black look, might want to look into some bucket seats like mine from an escort, they would match your colors nicely and leave you nice room for a sub in the middle. I put in a Kicker Solo Baric L7 10 in mine and my right ear has stopped working since then.
