I have a 94 f150 2wd 5.0l w/auto. I cleaned the throttle plates and adjusted the idle down at the throttle stop. However, it still takes it awhile to idle down when coming to a stop. It acts as though the gas pedal is still being applied, which is really tough on the brakes. Any suggestions ????
Have you checked for codes? Could be a Throttle position sensor, IAC valve. It could also be a vacum leak at the manifold or broken vacum line. does it idle down at all? Check codes and Vacum leaks first. Good luck
Thanks for the responce. I did a self test but I am not sure what it really means. It came up as follows 1 1 6 6 3 6 1 1 6 6 3 6 long pause 1 5 5 6 5 5 6 any help with this would be appreciated. Yes, it does idle down but it is delayed aprox. 7-8 seconds. I checked for leaks and did not find any. I am not sure how to check the IAC or the TPS can anyone help with this ?????

You need to bring the truck to normal operating temp before you test it. I am hoping that you tested it cold. The first two codes or consitant with cold vehicle testing. If you did test it warm they could be telling the computer to raise the Idle due to a cold engine. Do a re-test and make sure the engine is at normal operating temp. Test the truck with the Key On engine Off, then wait for Continues memory codes, Then turn off Vehicle and start it and do a Key On engine Running test. Collect all these codes and let us know what you get. The codes you sent are as follows:
Code 116 Engine coolant temperature higher or lower than expected voltage
Code 636 Transmission Oil Temperature Higher or Lower than expected
Continues Memory Code 556: Fuel pump relay primary circuit failure
You may also want to clear the continues memory codes if you think the fuel pump is relay is fine. You could also clear the codes and see if code 556 comes back. I doubt code 556 is you Idle problem, but I could be wrong. Anyone else have any ideas.
Thanks.... Yes it was stone cold. The fuel pump seems to prime as it should. I will unhook the battery in the a.m and run the test again after it is warmed up.
I don't know if that will clear the codes. I was always told that if you are using a scan turn to put it in hold when the continues memory codes begin. But again I could just not know some tricks. good Luck and let me know what you get.
