ok i got a p335 code from Ford. they say they have to pull a $200 part and replace it. the service is gonna cost me $650, and quite frankly the car is only worth about $2000 fixed and about $1500 not. my explorer has 143,000 mi, and 7 hard years of family driving. its getting about 12 mpg so i know that the emmission is bad. i am wondering if i can fix or replace this DPFE unit myself or if i should just sell my van now. its not gonna pass smog without the repair says ford, which is a concern when i trade the title off. im a little concerned about the whole ordeal with ford as it cost me $100 JUST to have them tell me it needs to be fixed. it would seem that the sensor unit must be either expensive, sensitive, or just hard to replace so id like to know about what ive gotten myself into. im not too savvy on what the unit is or does all i know is that the check engine light flicks on and sometimes off. no clue as to why or when it will happen. any information that you guys have on this is appreciated.
on another note, ive been getting a low signal on my oil pressure. standard needle guage, but the needle is teetering on the low side. it seems to flow with traffic. the faster i go, the guage will "sometimes" go up. if i slow or stop, it tends to drop back down. ive been using lucas oil treatment lately, and i dont want to put too much in. ive put the specs and then some cause i know the engine has quite a bit of wear. maybe the sensor is bad? any help on this is also appreciated... just getting tired of dumping money into this thing.
The DPFE is easy to replace...two vacuum hoses, an electrical connection and two bolts....Here's a picture from my 94...You might want to have a shop check the oil pressure. You need an oil pressure guage to test it...unless someone else knows a trick...
ok whats the best way to check the sensor and valve? ive pulled the hoses off and the sensor has air blowing into it, if i were to blow into the sensor should it light the CEL? someone said that if i were to blow into the -valve- hose it should pop open/close and cause the vacuum to make the engine jerk... however im pretty sure that i cant blow or suck the hose, there is no vacuum or air blowing from the nipple or around the gasket. i havent yanked the vavle out yet but am i to expect that its caked with carbon?
