Hey Folks,
The other day on my way to work ( 7:30 am 30 some degree's). I noticed a rubbing sound to best describe it I guess. Thing is, it goes away and come back when I hit little bumps? Brakes are new (changed them 'bout 4-5months ago). No SES light. The sound was comin from the front end. I think more so the passanger side. Its a 99 PSD 4x4. I know this probably isn't much help for a diagnosis but any help is appriciated!!!!!!
i think im having the same problem. i asked my question yesturday at 851pm. my noise started out to be a shortthing then started getting longer and longer. i dont get the noise with my hubs locked, which are warn premiums around a year old. please help......oo' 250 7.3 76000miles
Shocks are factory I think. But aren't the 99's leafs in the front? ( could be and probably am wrong on that one.) But yeah if they are still factory then there is around 195,000 miles on'em.
Fireman, we've pulled stock shocks off of trucks with less than 10k miles on them that were already shot. I'd definitely consider putting a good set on, maybe Bilsteins or another good performance shock. Also check all the bushings (leaf springs, torsion bar, cab mount, etc...). Yes, it is leafs front and rear on your 4x4. Let us know what you find.
My 2003 has a strange groaning sound when I hit bumps or dips in the roads. It sounds like a dry rubber bushing. I was thinking swaybar bushings or shocks. It is a CC 4X4 7.3 with 44,000 miles. I traded a friend my 5.4 SC for this one (long story-he is insane). So far, I have rotors on the to-do-list and this groaning sound. It doesnt do it when it is wet outside. By the way, a friend of mine brought his 99 4X4 SD with the 7.3 to the house the other night. He said the front end "popped" when in a parking lot. He is truck illiterate. I jacked the left front up and the lower ball joint was so bad I wouldnt have driven it home. He paid Ford $751 to replace all 4 ball joints. He has 88,000 miles on it.
