Flickering headlights

Just scared myself on a 10 mile drive home tonight with flickering headlights. Any thoughts? It's not the alternator, and I THINK that I double checked all the grounds. It is an F1 with 65 Galaxie headlights (wiring from the galaxie too). The dash lights and tail lights also flicker. I want to pull my eyelashes out I am so frustrated. Wiring is not my forte. Thanks in advance!

Id have to say its a bad connection. I dont know how your setup is, but I would follow your wires from the fusebox all the way back to the lights. Sounds like you have a bad connection. Its not hard, but it might take a while. Suspension isnt my forte', but I can run me some wires.

If the above advice doesn't turn up any problems, here's something else to think about. Does the 51 use a circuit breaker system like the 48-50's? I haven't taken time to look at the shop manual, but if a breaker is getting weak it will trip and reset repeatedly like that.

I had that happen once, I replaced everything only to find out it was a lose ground. It was a ground strap from the intake manifold to the firewall. It was over looked after a valve job. Now I always check the grounds first. Good Luck.......

I had that experience long ago on a truck I once owned. It turned out to be a bad floor switch for the high beams. It seemed that the power for the low beams passed through this switch. When it next occurs, try fiddling with the connection and operate the switch to see if you get any clues.

I've had the same issue w/various old Mustangs over the years. There is a resistor or something in the headlight switch that wears out over time. Replace your headlight switch and you should be fine.
