HELP, brake line broke?

ok, my master cylinder went out on me today, so I replaced it with a new one, then when I drove it the brakes were better than they ever have been. When I was coming home from the test drive I heard a popping sound and the brake pedal went to the floor. On the driver's side between the gas tank and the frame there is a connector looking deal where the brake line coming from the front connects to another line leading the rest of the way back. Brake fluid is squirting from that connector badly. Does anyone know the name of this connecter and where I can get a new one? I need this truck fixed by 2 pm tomorrow. Thanks

HELP, brake line broke?

It sounds like your brake line has broken or rusted off at a splice. Usually these lines are solid from front to back, but over time they rust or rub through, and it is possible that someone has repaired it before. If you have the tools to cut the line and section a piece in, you can do that. But you have to have the correct flaring tool to flare brake lines because they are double flared. If you don't have the tools, it would be much cheaper to simply replace the entire line. Just measure how much line you need from the proportioning valve to the hose where it is connected under the bed. Take the ends of the steel line along to the auto parts store to make sure they can adapt their steel line to what you need. That will also allow them to give you the right diameter line. Steel brake line is cheap. Just get a couple pieces to get your length and the couplings to put them together. Even with a quart of brake fluid you'll get out the door with everything you need for under $20!

HELP, brake line broke?

An M350 is a Ford 1 ton truck that was originally sold in Canada under the Mercury nameplate. The Mercs use an "M" as a prefix instead of the "F"...instead of the truck being an F350 it's an M350. Just a ford with the Mercury letters across the hood, stamped into the tailgate, and different badging on the cowls.

HELP, brake line broke?

My 80 f150 did the same thing-got the brakes working and then the line busted about midway down the frame. Mine had a coupler too, so I am suspicious this may have been factory. I was able to get the rusted line loose from the coupler, but get this; When I went to take the line off the hose going to the rear, it twisted off in the hose. Then when I went to take the hose fitting off the rearend housing, both lines twisted off going to each wheel cylinder. I was able to replace all the steel lines with universal ones they had at the parts store. I had to buy a new hose with the tee fitting made onto it. It was really frustrating at the time it happened, but I am glad I replaced everything, since it's been 10 yrs now since it happened, and I haven't had any problems with it since.
