Obviously these are two distinct problems, but I just got the truck and want it as close to perfect as an 89 can be.
1st problem, I can't get the cruise control to work. I checked the fuse and it was ok. My dad said he thought it was some minor thing like an inline fuse somewhere that he had replaced before and couldn't remember exactly what it was.
2nd my ac lines leak freon. My dad says it leaks where it bolts to the back of the compressor and it is common. O-ring was replaced and still leaked out over the course of a year. Is this common and is there a better fix?
Thanks for any help you guys can provide for a Ford newbie.
There is even a more common problem with the Ford A/C systems. Usually, every connection leaks. I'm surprised only the manifold is leaking, I think that was the only place mine didn't leak. I hate Ford A/C!! I had too many problems with my last Four Fords. 2 Stangs, one Probe and my F150, every one had continuous A/C problems. Is it R12? or has it been converted to 134a?
pressure in system use spray bottle with soap in it spray all fittings and lines at evap. coil / condensor also if there is enough freon in it you will see bubbles tighten all fittings if there is not any freon in it use nitrogen and if no bubbles you should check oriface while its down. if you change to r-134a use 20% less than what the tag says and change oil to aster oil (poe) some fords use a txv and not an oriface to meter freon, good luck
