Service Schedule Recommendations-Help!

I was able to find some threads about the 7.3's and previous 6.0 oil changes, but I did not see any for the 05 PSD service intervals. The owners manual on my new 05 says that the oil should be changed every 5,000 miles under "normal" conditions. The thing is, I am not towing anything now but do live in the Phoenix area where it will be extremely hot and dusty during the summer months. Does anyone have a different opinion on when to do ther services. I was raised "every 3,000 miles/3 months" way, but hear that now-a-days, that is not necessary. Please comment-thanks!

That is interesting. The normal schedule for the '03 6.0 L is to change every 7,500 miles. The severe service schedule is to change every 5,000 miles.

Using an oil analysis outfit like www.blackstone-labs.com is a good way to see how well your oil is holding up and how effective your air filter is as well.

My apologies, you are right. Dealership and A-Z Diesel in Mesa, AZ is telling me 5,000 miles at the most under any circumstance due to living in AZ. Do you think this is right, or are they just trying to make extra money?

My 03 service manual says 7,500 for normal service and 5,000 for severe service. My dealer says 5,000 for here in Texas 'cuz it is hot and dusty here in summer. I change it myself every 5K.

Look in the Tech Folder and do your own oil changes. It is easy.

KISS Oil Change Schedule

The old 3000 mile interval was a marketing ploy by Pennzoil that has held up for years. Most manufactures recommend 7500 miles. What I have done for years is us the simple method of changing oil and filter and rotating the tires every 5000 mile on a 5000 mile anniversary. That way I don’t have to write anything down or wonder when the next service is due. Just look at the odometer (5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 20,000…290,000, 295,000, 300,000, and so on) “KISS” works great again.<O</O

Decided to stay with the 5,000 mile interval. Seems to be what is necessary. Thanks for the input!

I too live in the Phoenix area and have 13,000 miles on my 05 6.0. I have tested my oil twice - once after 5,000 miles of heavy towing in and out of the mountains and next after an average 7,500 miles. The results were not far appart (microns). My point? Anywhere between 5,000 and 7,500 miles will suffice and will help ensure you have no warranty issues relating to oil changes. I have managed a fleet of more than a thousand of these engines for several years now and deal directly with Ford. They support what I have just written.

Enjoy your new truck.
